Event Recap: MéCour Thermal Solutions at BMSIARC

Posted by Ken Linehan

We had the opportunity to exhibit at the recent 36th Annual BMS Interdivisional Analytical Research Conference (BMSIARC) in NJ. This private show was sponsored by BMS solely for the Discovery Analytical Sciences – Mass Spec groups within BMS. It was BMS’ get-together for this group to review and discuss current technologies and new technologies and equipment offered by vendors who specialize in this area.

Based on several current MéCour customers from BMS, they felt that the wide range of thermal solutions we offer would impact and improve overall efficiency and reproducibility of results for their particular applications. We displayed a number of heating/cooling solutions designed to seamlessly integrate specifically with CTC PAL ™ Autosampler systems. The two-day show was well attended by BMS staff who showed great interest in what we currently provide for HDX, LC-GC and UHPLC applications. An example is a cooling solution (MeCour’s smallest thermal block) for the syringe for HDX on the CTC Autosampler, which reduces back exchange.

A recent solution provided BMS in Wallingford, CT with a compact thermal block 2 x 5 layout of 10mL vials that replaced the “open vial” rack which was located over the GC heat exhaust vent that evaporated costly reagents. The thermal block now provides required thermal protection maintaining reagents at a steady 18°- 20°C.

Additional thermal solutions included our “Column Cooling Chambers,” aptly named by one of our best customers at Scripps, which accommodate a wide range of columns providing solid temp control while perfectly integrated into the entire MéCour thermal system. More standard thermal units included the two- or three-drawer Thermal Hotel with a temperature range from -20°C to +150°C; Spinner Flask unit for stable temperature control while mixing/suspending cells prior to dispensing and the single, two or three-valve cooling chambers that provide and sustain a temperature range between -20°C to +150°C.

Thermal electric devices are out there. Do you know what your sample temperature is really at? Are you positive the temperature setting on this electrical device is the temperature setting you need to sustain your costly samples and reagents at? Care to guess? Stay tuned, as we will be presenting a two-year thermal analysis of thermal electric devices compared directly with MéCour’s fluid-driven thermal systems. You be the judge!

Our Mass Spec solutions are designed to provide you thermal stability, reliability and reproducible results for these applications. Let us know if you have questions and see if MéCour can assist you with a solid thermal solution.
