Thermal Control Update: Modified Plate Stacker for Caliper Twister II

Posted by Ken Linehan

MéCour displayed Caliper’s 40 plate capacity Thermal Plate Stacker thermal control solution at the SLAS show with corresponding thermal mapping detailing temp measurements at points inside the Stacker.

Thermistors were placed at every 10 plates - the base, lower and upper quarter section and top - for overall temperature monitoring.  The Blue Channel 1 probe details the temperature furthest from set point due to top protective cover that does not completely seal out ambient influence. Reason being that Twister II needs free access for cover removal. See detailed graph and results below.

Per customer and Caliper's suggestions, we modified the original “open-faced” unit that provided the TWISTER II access to the plates with a light weight gripper friendly top/front cover as shown below.

The TWISTER now removes the cover and then accesses the plates. Significant improvements were documented and more importantly, we virtually eliminated any condensation inside the Stacker that in the past created headaches to end-users.

The current Thermal Stacker sits adjacent to the standard Caliper POD (picture on right) where open plate stackers reside.

MéCour will modify your plate stacker to afford customers with temperature controlled plates prior to placement on deck. Temperature range is from 0°C to 120°C, and MéCour will make 20, 30, or more plate capacity Thermal Stackers.
